James A. Campbell (Medal of Honor)


Private James A. Campbell was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Campbell received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action at Woodstock in Virginia onJanuary 1865 and at Amelia Courthouse in Virginia onApril 1865. He was honored with the award onOctober 1897.

Campbell was born in New York, New York onDecember 1844 and enlisted into the 2nd New York Cavalry. He died onMay 1904 and his remains are interred at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia along with his wife Martha Spence Campbell.
